Series; One Hundred Famous Views of Kyoto

One Hundred Famous Views of Kyoto - Handsome view from Masao Ido's series "One Hundred Famous Views of Kyoto." Although Masao Ido is best known for his self-published sosaku hanga designs, this series was published by Kan-ei-do, and includes ten designs for each of ten different areas of the city. Views range from bustling streets to serene temples and shrines throughout the seasons. This design features the Higashiyama district. Nicely composed with lively calligraphic line work, these attractive images offer a vibrant look at modern life in Kyoto.

Masao Ido - Born to Japanese parents in Manchuria in 1945, Masao Ido moved to Japan as a small child and today lives and works in Kyoto. He has achieved an international reputation as one of Japan's leading contemporary artists, and his works are included in the collections of the Tokyo National Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He is also recognized as a teacher, having taught other contemporary masters such as Seiji Sano.

Known for his serene landscape prints of traditional Japanese subjects, Ido finds inspiration in Kyoto and the surrounding countryside. His images of private gardens, quiet streets, temple gates, and hillside views reflect his interest in nature and the changing seasons. His handsome designs are a nice choice for display.
