Seki Sanjuro III as the Ascetic Fukai, 1867

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Seki Sanjuro III as the ascetic Fukai in the play "Keisei Soga Kuruwa Kagami." The monk looks over his shoulder with a sneer as he holds a shakujou or pilgrim's staff with both hands. He wears a gray robe over blue pants and arm protectors, and a blue cloth headdress. Behind him, a large opening is torn in what looks like a stack of blocks covered with cloth. An expressive figure.

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown
