Beauty, Samurai, and Elderly Warrior

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a samurai frowning angrily at an elderly warrior, a cylindrical box tucked under his arm. The elderly warrior looks back at him with a sober expression, his white hair falling loosely over hie shoulder. He holds a black fan decorated with a crescent moon. The beauty at left leans forward with an eager smile as she pulls up the collar of her purple outer robe. A screen behind the men depicts a fierce dragon emerging from the clouds, and purple draperies featuring the hollyhock leaf crest of the Tokugawa clan frame the scene. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the ban, embossing on the white hair, and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the crescent moon. The first time we've seen this Chikanobu design.
