Comments - Handsome depiction of a ceremony celebrating the Silver Wedding Anniversary of the Meiji Emperor and Empress. The royal couple sits on a platform behind a table covered with a red fringed cloth, the emperor in a military uniform and the empress wearing the latest European fashions. In the center of the floor, a low table holds an auspicious arrangement of pine, plum, and bamboo, along with figures of the elderly couple Jo and Uba, symbolizing fidelity and marital happiness, and a turtle with moss growing from its shell, denoting longevity. Nicely detailed. An interesting depiction of this historic event.
