Comments - Terrific triptych depicting an emperor standing on a verandah viewing the sunset, accompanied by the empress and many ladies-in-waiting. He wears a red robe with a design of clouds and a dragon, and an ornate headdress with beaded fringe. The empress waits at right, holding a folding fan and wearing a crown. Rays of light radiate across the sky as the red sun sinks below the horizon, with cranes flying past. Purple and white draperies with the white Chrysanthemum Imperial crest frame the scene above, with colorful cherry blossoms below. An attractive design with vibrant color and wonderful detail, including faint embossing on the white kimono trim and bokashi shading in the blossoms, sea, and sky.
