Warrior and Beauty, 1880 - Interesting kabuki scene of a meeting taking place at a Minamoto encampment. In the center, a bearded warrior looks up at a beauty with a frown, a naginata with a black lacquer handle in his hand. He wears a fine suit of armor, his curly hair pulled back into a bushy ponytail. The beauty looks past him at the matron sitting at left, smiling sweetly. The older woman glares back at her with an angry frown. At right, a nobleman watches the warrior closely. Cloth panels emblazoned with the Minamoto paulownia crest provide privacy, with lanterns hanging from the pine tree above. A handsome design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono and cloth panel, and burnishing on the naginata handle and the matron's black collar. Includes metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the naginata blade and the beauty's hair ornament.
