Nakamura Shikan as Matsugae Tetsunosuke and Ichikawa Sadanji as Karagi Wasuke, 1872 - Dramatic kabuki scene of a Matsugae Tetsunosuke attacking Karagi Wasuke with his iron war fan (tessen). He raises it above his head as a weapon while grabbing Wasuke by the back of the neck. The warrior struggles to free himself, the blade of his sword clenched between his teeth. He wears a black kimono with a beautiful burnished geometric print, tucked into striped green pants. The figures are set against a red tie-dyed textile pattern. The fan-shaped inset above by Chikayoshi features a bird on a blossoming plum tree beneath a glowing full moon. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji and Nakamura Shikan. An attractive design, nicely detailed and vibrantly colored.
