Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Child Emperor Antoku

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a nobleman holding the child Emperor Antoku on his shoulder as he addresses a group of daimyo and samurai. The nobleman wears formal court dress and a court cap, his black robe beautifully burnished with a geometric pattern. A monk sits at left beside a small offering tray holding a scroll. The bearded warrior at left seems quite agitated, gesturing with his fan, his hat knocked to the floor. A fine altar behind the group is decorated with vases of lotus blossoms and other vessels, and draped with colorful cloth. A handsome triptych with fine detail in the figures and soft shading in the drapery overhead.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 28" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some toning at edges. A couple light creases in subject. Some minor ink offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
