Series; Praise for Multicolored Blossoms
Shiragi of Inagi-ro and Ochiyo of Nakanocho, 1883 - Charming image from a series comparing courtesans to colorful flowers. Here, the two beauties Shiragi of Inagi-ro and Ochiyo of Nakanocho are shown in a pleasure boat viewing fireworks on a summer night. The women smile and chat with each other, one holding a round fan. A red floral carpet is spread across the deck of the boat, and red paper lanterns adorn the canopy overhead. At upper left, fireworks explode in starbursts of red sparks, lighting up the evening sky with a pink glow. A lovely image from this rarely seen Chikanobu series.
