Series; The Treasury of Loyal Retainers (Kanadehon Chushingura), 1859

The 47 Ronin, Act 8: Michiyuki (The Bridal Journey) - Wonderful depiction of the bridal journey from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the famous tale of the 47 ronin. Here the lovely young Konami and her mother, Tonase, journey to Yuranosuke's estate near Kyoto. In a humorous encounter in the foreground, a samurai's footman pleads with a woman carrying what appears to be a straw shoe for a horse. Mt. Fuji rises majestically in the distance, framed by tall pine trees. A charming image, nicely detailed.
