Series; Night Wind and Whitecaps on the Open Sea

Nakamura Shikan as Inaba Kozo Shinsuke - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as Inaba Kozo Shinsuke, gripping the blade of a knife between his teeth as he lifts up what looks like a wooden sluice gate. He wears a tie-dyed blue and white summer kimono tied with a brown plaid obi, a few locks of wet hair clinging to the side of his face. Behind him, two egrets take flight above the reeds of a marsh in dark silhouette against the night sky. A terrific design, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the knife.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/8" + top margin as shown
