Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true tale of the 47 ronin. At left, Yuranosuke frowns as he converses with a warrior outside the walls of the Imperial Palace. The seated samurai wears a blue and gray dotted kamishimo over a burnished black kimono, looking up solemnly at his companion. The warrior is dressed in a elegant robe patterned with phoenixes in flight and trimmed with tasseled bows, his long hair pulled back into a low ponytail. In a separate scene at right, a man looks at a beautiful young woman with a horrified expression, his hands spread wide in alarm, although she smiles up at his sweetly. Snow falls against the dark night sky behind them. An interesting triptych with large, finely detailed figures and attractive settings. Additional burnishing in the beauty's black collar and delicate embossing on the warrior's white sash.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds. Small loss and a few small tears at edges, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and curling, a few marks. Please see photos for details.
