Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of a commoner standing atop a sign, confronted by beauties holding swords on either side of him. The wooden placard has trapped the blades beneath his feet, and he frowns as he eyes one of the women, a string of prayer beads dangling from his ear, a practice thought to curb temper. Both women look up at him, smiling slyly, each holding a blue cloth in her outstretched hand. Softly shaded blue curtains fill the background, patterned with diagonal rows of white swirls. An intriguing subject, nicely detailed.
