Excursion to Ueno Park with Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom, 1878 - Beautiful triptych of the Meiji Empress surrounded by ladies-in-waiting during an excursion to Ueno Park to view the blossoming cherry trees. The group is gathered in a pavilion with a view of Shinobazu Pond and Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. The women are all sumptuously dressed in elegantly patterned kimono with delicate white embossing on the white trim. The Emperor and several officials sit around a table in a separate room to the rear. Purple drapery emblazoned with the Imperial mon or family crest frames the scene overhead. A terrific Meiji era image with lively color and charming detail, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
