Comments - Fine print featuring scenes from Acts 9 and 10 from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the tale of the 47 ronin. In Act 9 above, Tonase prepare to kill her daughter, Konami, after Yuranosuke's wife rejects the young woman as a bride for their son, Rikiya. He stands in the hallway, listening as the sound of a flute being played in the garden is heard, announcing the arrival of a traveling monk, who is Konami's father, Honzo, in disguise. Below, a group of ronin arrives at the merchant Gihei's shop to challenge his loyalty. Gihei had hidden weapons for the vendetta, and even when the ronin threaten to harm his son, he refuses to divulge their location. The warriors brandish iron truncheons at him as his son peers fearfully through the doorway curtains. A handsome composition with attractive color and the traditional ronin dogtooth border.
