Comments - Interesting kabuki scene to two samurai encountering a hermit in the wilderness. He stands at right leaning against a rustic wooden staff, his curly hair trialing over his shoulders. At left, a palace guard holds a black lacquer water dipper, a waterfall rushing over the mountain behind him. He seems alarmed by the hermit, frowning as he throws out his hand out, while the nobleman on the dappled horse smiles kindly back at him. He wears an elegant red and green checked robe trimmed with a pleated blue print collar, and the horse's mane is tied with yellow ribbons. A handsome design with large expressive figures and a nicely detailed mountain setting. Includes a dusting of mica along the top of the dark night sky.
