Puzzled Commoner and Beauty, 1851

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of the commoner Ukiyodoko Inosuke scratching his head in a puzzled manner as he looks up at the beauty Wakakusa. He sits on the wooden walkway of the house, an overturned bench and rolled up straw mats on the ground behind him with the river beyond. A few loose hairs frame his face, giving him a disheveled appearance. The beauty smiles sweetly at him over her shoulder, a roll of tissues in one hand. A few boats can be seen on the water, with a red glow from paper lanterns on the opposite shore beneath the evening sky. The actor at left is Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. An interesting design with a nicely detailed setting.
