Imperial Inspection of Military March at Fukiage, 1889 - Handsome scene of a procession of samurai on horseback and on foot passing a reviewing stand where noblemen are gathered for an Imperial inspection of the troops. The warriors are dressed in full armor and battle helmets, accompanied by colorful banners and standards. The pavilion is lined with a screen depicting a dragon emerging from black clouds, with purple and white drapery overhead featuring the three hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa Clan. Wonderful color and detail in this handsome illustration, with burnishing on the black horses and armor, and accents of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Losses and tears at edges, repaired. Slight toning, a few creases, some offsetting from metallic pigment. Please see photos for details.
