Kenshin and Shingen Battling, 1881

Comments - Fantastic kabuki depiction of the two great generals Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin in battle. Surprising Shingen in his camp, Kenshin charges ahead on his brown horse, grasping his sword with both hands, ready to strike his enemy. Shingen springs into actions, using his iron battle fan to deflect the blow, glaring with rage. He wears an impressive battle helmet topped with a horned demon's head and flowing white wig, and red robes over his armor. One of his faithful retainers attacks the intruder with his spear. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji, Ichikawa Danjuro, and Nakamura Shikan. A dramatic image with wonderful detail in the armor and facial expressions, and embossing on the white wig and the white cloth panel behind Shingen.
