Battle at Gojo Bridge, 1899

Comments - Terrific kabuki illustration of the great battle on Gojo Bridge between the warrior monk, Benkei, and the young Ushiwakamaru, later known as Yoshitsune. Benkei strikes a fierce pose, gripping his naginata with both hands, an impressive array of weapons at his back. The young samurai faces him with an open fan, frowning at his opponent, wearing a fine robe over his armor. A dramatic image of this famous confrontation set against the misty night sky with a glowing full moon. A classic samurai subject.

Image Size - 27 3/8" x 13 7/8" + margins as shown
