Scene from the 47 Ronin, 1872

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true story of the 47 ronin. In the center, Lord Wakasanosuke reacts angrily as Lord Moronao abuses him, scowling as he leans forward aggressively. At right, Moronao stares up at him in surprise his brows furrowed as he backs away. At left, Lord Hangan frowns as he watches the confrontation. A screen decorated with a dragon emerging from the clouds provides a striking backdrop. From left, the actors are Nakamura Kanjaku, Ichikawa Sadanji, and Kawasazaki Sansho. The ronin's traditional dogtooth border adds graphic impact. The first time we've offered this subject.
