Boy Riding a Hobby Horse and Beauties, 1847 - 1852 - Charming scene of a young boy riding a hobby horse as three beauties smile delightedly as they watch him play. The woman in the center hold a small rack with miniature processional standards, and a fish on wheels and other toys rest on the floor at lower right. The woman above wears a black outer kimono with a fantastic pattern of a feather robe, a reference to a popular Noh play about a tennin or heavenly Buddhist spirit whose feather robe is found by a fisherman. Blossoming cherry trees frame the sky above, with a stone lantern and flowering yellow roses at left. A lovely design with sweetly expressive figures.
