Fujiwara Yukinari and Chujo Sanekata - Handsome illustration of the celebrated Heian era calligrapher Fujiwara Yukinari and the noted poet Chujo Sanekata. Apparently, the pair quarreled and Sanekata insulted the calligrapher, which led to Sanekata being exiled to Oku as governor, where he died. At left, Sanekata wears an elegant black court robe with a beautiful burnished pattern and a court cap. He appears to have knocked a similar cap from the head of the calligrapher, who holds his sleeve to his head in surprise, the cap on the floor at left. An intriguing subject with fine line work in the reed blind.
