In a Beauty's Private Quarters

Comments - Interesting kabuki triptych depicting a group in a beauty's private quarters. The courtesan at right smiles happily as she takes a slender pipe from her young attendant, an open book in her hand. A woman stands next to her holding a metal hairpin, and a fantastic dragon print kimono is draped over a stand behind them. The other women in the room converse animatedly, pointing and gesturing, while a man carrying a tobacco set frowns soberly from far left. Wonderful detail in the interior setting, which includes a black lacquer trunk with metal fittings and shelves holding books and scrolls. Nice vibrant color with touches of burnishing.
