Fashionable Eastern Genji, 1854

Comments - Terrific scene of Prince Genji entertaining a young girl with a puppet of a fox in a kimono. The child reaches eagerly for the puppet as Genji makes it dance and move. A low lacquer box at right is filled with all manner of toys, including a hobby horse and a small fish on wheels. A matron at right leans forward with an eager smile, while the beauty behind her looks lovely down at the seated girl at her side. The open window behind them is framed with blossoming plum trees. Fantastic detail in the interior setting and elegant furnishings, with embossing on Genji's white kimono. A charming image.
