Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Women's Western Hairstyles, 1885

Comments - Attractive print depicting women modeling the latest Meiji era hairstyles. Based on earlier Western styles, the sokuhatsu consisted of the hair softly pulled back into a bun or chignon at the back of the head, shown here at right. The arrangements in the left panel include braids, and two of the women have flowers in their hair. An fascinating subject with extremely fine detail in the hair and lively color. The first time we've offered this rare Kunichika design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 18 7/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few wormholes, repaired. A couple stains. Please see photos for details.
