Comments - Handsome triptych depicting a famous scene from the tale of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his lover, the beautiful shirabyoshi dancer, Shizuke Gozen. After Yoshitsune fled to avoid capture by his brother, Yoritomo, Lady Shizuka determined to rejoin him. Traveling with Yoshitsune's faithful retainer, Tadanobu, she set out after him. Here, she pauses for a break in the mountains under a blossoming cherry tree, delicate pink petals showering down over the ground. The Heian era beauty wears a lovely purple kimono over flowing red hakama pants, her long hair trailing over her shoulders. An excited messenger has arrived, talking and gesturing with his hand towards the right. A stunning design with a lovely natural setting, beautifully composed with the cherry tree framing the scene. Nicely detailed with delicate embossing in the white pants and soft shading in the sky.
