Original Toshikata (1866 - 1908) Japanese Woodblock Print
Tea Ceremony

Comments - Beautiful triptych of a group of upper-class women attending a tea ceremony. The guests kneel quietly on the floor at left as the hostess prepares the tea at right. She holds a small teapot in her hands, a tray arranged with porcelain teacups on the floor next to her. A low table holds a tray and a bowl of sweets. Wonderful detail in the handsome household setting, with a niche holding a floral arrangement and a scroll of cranes. Elegantly drawn with graceful fine line work and soft color. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono collars and touches of burnishing. A lovely crisp clean print with handsome wood grain impression in the background.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown
