The Capture of the Outlaws at Uryu Harbor, 1876

Series; Annals of the Meiji Period

The Capture of the Outlaws at Uryu Harbor, 1876 - Terrific scene of policemen rushing to capture a group of outlaws along the shore of Uryu Harbor. The samurai in the center leans forward, throwing his hands out at his sides. The warrior standing behind him scowls angrily, a Western-style hat in his hand. One of the outlaws is bleeding from a wound to the head, while another looks back over his shoulder, watching an approaching ship as waves roll along the rocky shore. The policemen wear black uniforms and caps, armed with swords and long wooden batons, two of the men carrying lanterns. An intriguing image, wonderfully detailed, with an atmospheric night setting. Includes burnishing in the black uniforms and kimono.
