Comments - Handsome scene from Act 7 of the kabuki play "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" based on the true story of the 47 Ronin. The leader of the ronin, Oboshi Yuranosuke, has just discovered one of Moronao's retainers spying on him from beneath the floorboards of the Ichiriki Teahouse in Gion. He drags Kudayu by the collar as he prepares to strike him with his fan. At right, the courtesan Okaru reacts with alarm, throwing her hands out at her sides. At left, her brother Teraoka Heiemon grimaces angrily as he pushes up the sleeve of his tie-dyed under robe. Nice expressive figures in an interesting setting, with a water basin made from a tree trunk at right and a towel on a black lacquer stand on the porch above.
