Genji in Modern Style: Kyogen Dressing Room, 1867

Comments - Fantastic scene of beauties in a dressing room preparing for a kyogen or comic play performance. At lower left, a woman sits at a makeup stand with a mirror, holding a brush and a shallow bowl of red pigment. A musician kneels beside her holding a song book and a shamisen. Prince Genji stands in at right behind a screen, grinning happily as beauty beats a large drum on a stand and a woman at top center uses wooden clappers. Wonderful detail and beautiful color in this charming design. The first time we have offered this unusual subject.

Image Size - 14" x 27 1/2"
