Series; Praise for Multicolored Blossoms

Shizue and Fujimurasaki of Daimonji-ro, 1883 - Attractive design from a series featuring beautiful courtesans from the Shin Yoshiwara. Here, Shizue and Fujimurasaki of Daimonji-ro approach a teahouse, walking through a courtyard garden bordered with blossoming irises. A woman holds a candle aloft in the doorway to welcome the pair as they walk under an umbrella, one woman lifting her robes with both hands to keep them from getting wet. A charming evening scene with rooftops in silhouette against the darkening sky beyond. The inset above shows a view of Mt. Fuji with drifting clouds. A lovely image, attractively colored.
