Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Artist Painting a Screen, 1886

Comments - Handsome print of an artist at work in his studio with several visitors watching. He looks critically at a screen panel painted with a design of the sun and waves, a couple of brushes in his other hand. Additional paintings are stacked against the wall and brushes and other supplies line the shelves behind him. A beauty and a samurai watch with admiring looks, while an elderly woman at left seems unhappy, frowning at the artist. An intriguing subject with fine detail in the interior setting, and delicate cloth embossing on the screen panels.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown
