Sanshu, Snow at Okazaki, Disposing of Lady Tsukiyama, No. 44 - Lady Tsukiyama was married to Tokugawa Ieyasu to form a political alliance between their families. During the war for control of central Japan, she was accused of plotting with Takeda warriors against her own husband. Arrested for spying, she was eventually executed. This scene shows Lady Tsukiyama struggling with an attendant who tries to drag her into Okazaki Castle while another woman watches coldheartedly. The inset above shows Ieyasu on horseback next to the hollyhock banner of the Tokugawa Clan. Beautifully detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and wooden geta clogs, and embossing on the white kimono trim.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Thinning at corners, repaired. Slight toning, light staining at side, slight soiling and ink bleeding. Please see photos for details.
