Chinese Man Playing a Lute

Nagasaki and Yokohama Prints - This unusual design is from an intriguing group of reprints depicting foreigners in Japan. Some of the designs illustrate the early Dutch and Chinese traders in Nagasaki beginning in the early 17th century. Other prints show Americans and other traders at Yokoyama in the mid-nineteenth century after Japan was opened to trade with the West. We've never seen this series before. An interesting historical record of foreigners in Japan.
