Tsuru, 1982 by Ouchi Makoto (1926 - 1989)

Ouchi Makoto (1926 - 1989) Original Japanese Etching
Tsuru, 1982

Ouchi Makoto - An active member of the Independent Artist's Association, Ouchi Makoto had his first solo show at the Japan Club in New York in 1958. He exhibited regularly at the prestigious College Women's Association of Japan's annual print show, as well as internationally. His works are in the collections of museums around the world, including the British Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Ouchi's works combine etching with paper blocks, and feature raised and embossed areas of paper that contrast with the printing itself. Inspired by traditional ukiyo-e subjects such as kabuki  portraits and landscapes, Ouchi transforms them into modern designs, creating striking compositions with beautiful use of the negative space. Each print is signed, numbered, and titled in pencil within the image. These large format, limited edition etchings are a fantastic choice for a collector interested contemporary Japanese art.
