Hachimantaro Yoshiie in Battle

Comments - Great depiction of a battle alongside a steep cliff, with the famous samurai Minamoto no Yoshiie, who was also known as Hashimantaro, on a dappled horse at left, surveying the fighting. At right, a warrior on a bucking horse wields a large black club, having just knocked down the enemies in front of him, one of their swords flying through the air. Behind him, two samurai locked in combat tumble down the side of the rugged cliff. The battle continues in the center, with opponents on horseback using pole arms to attack an enemy rider. A lively scene with a handsome natural setting.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
