The Pavilion of Love at First Sight, 1864

Comments - Interesting scene from the Tale of Genji of a beauty at the Pavilion of Love at First Sight, smiling surprised delight as she holds her hands out before her. She wears a deep blue kimono patterned with yellow blossoms over a red under robe, her hair adorned with clusters of small blue flowers, ribbons, and hairpins. Behind her, a matron kneels on the floor beside a cushion, bowing respectfully. The window at left opens onto a view of the water, while the panel at right depicts a flowering plum tree. A charming design with wonderful detail in the elegant fabrics and setting. Included embossing on the white kimono collar and trim.
