Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty with a Folding Fan, 1868

Comments - Attractive portrait of a beauty holding a folding fan painted with a verse. She looks over her shoulder with a somewhat surprised expression, smiling slightly and pointing with her finger. Her purple and white kimono features a bold pattern of stylized leaves, tied with a green print obi with a flower and scroll design. Rich green leaves and large peony blossoms provide an exotic setting for the figure. A handsome image, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hairstyle.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 3/8"
