Clematis, 1889

Series; Comparison of Flowers to Noted Women of All Time

Clematis, 1889 - Attractive image of a beauty and a young girl walking into the wind, the woman leaning forward as she tries to hold her kimono closed. The girl smiles happily at her, the breeze blowing her hair and knocking a few petals loose from the blossoming cherry branch in her hand. A large clematis vine with white blossoms provides a backdrop for the figures, while an inset above shows a warrior on horseback crossing a river, with another on the shore. An interesting design, detailed with fine line work and soft shading, plus a dusting of mica over the background. A rarely seen beauty series by Shogetsu.
