Comments - Handsome illustration from a play about the great Taira warrior Kagekiyo. In the center, he strikes a bold pose as he raises a wooden beam above his head after being imprisoned by the Minamoto. His bushy hair and flared sideburns give him a fierce expression. At right, the Genji commander Chichibu Shigetada watches with a worried expression, while Kagekiyo's sweetheart, Akoya, kneels below. Shigetada's retainer Iwanaga Munetsura grimaces at lower left, the beauty Hitomaru standing behind him. From left, the actors are Onoe Kikujiro, Arashi Yoshisaburo, Ichikawa Ebizo, Onoe Eisaburo as Akoya, and Ichiakwa Kuzo. A great design with expressive figures.
