Rooster on a Drum - Beautiful scene of a rooster perched on an elaborately decorated drum on a wooden stand wreathed in vines with leaves changing color in autumn. The image comes from the old tale of a drum placed outside the palace gates, for visitors to sound when desiring an audience with the daimyo. During times of wise rule, the drum was never needed, so roosters would rest atop the drum undisturbed. A hen and chicks peck on the ground below. A charming depiction of this classic subject.
