Series; Eight Snow Scenes in the Eastern Capital

Hiroshige's Eight Snow Scenes of the Eastern Capital - This beautiful series has a unique place in the history of Hiroshige's prints.  Hiroshige produced the designs for the series but it was not printed during his lifetime.  It is unknown why the prints were never produced as records show that they were approved by the censor Fuka-Tsu Ihei in 1846 and would normally have gone straight to production then.  But, they were not printed.  In 1928 those original Hiroshige drawings for this series were in the possession of a French collector who agreed to allow a small publication of 100 prints of each design by publisher Shotaro Sato.  Our beautiful reprint is an excellent opportunity for a collector to own one of these beautiful images. They are beautiful to display or to add to a collection.

Snow in the Grounds of the Fudo Shrine at Meguro - The lovely natural setting of the Fudo Temple at Meguro. The red temple building stands in contrast to the white snow. The hilly location with tall pines trees is a welcome departure from the more urban areas of the city.
