Prince Genji Retiring for the Evening

Comments - Wonderful scene from the classic "Tale of Genji" showing the young prince about to retire for the evening. He wears an informal kimono tied with a tie-dyed obi, wiping his hands on a towel decorated with "Genji" symbols. A beauty beckons to him from below the mosquito netting at right, smiling happily, her fan on the floor nearby. An attendant carries away a fine lacquer tray holding a large teapot. The verandah overlooks a beautiful lake surrounded by hills and pine trees in silhouette as twilight falls. A terrific design with lovely color and fine line work.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 29"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, attached, backed with thin paper. A few creases and a couple of toning spots. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
