Pleasure Boat on a Summer Evening

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Wonderful early Shuncho design with wealthy Edoites boarding a pleasure boat for an evening on the cool river. Beautiful color and fantastic twilight scenery. A handsome reprint with soft color. This excellent large-format diptych would make a knockout display.

Artist - Shuncho (active circa 1780 - 1795)

Image Size - 15" x 20 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two panels, not attached. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous folio mounting. Slight creasing near top corners. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
