Original Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904) Japanese Woodblock Print
Actor as Osho Jiro

Comments - Dramatic, if rather gory, kabuki scene of the bloodied rogue Osho Jiro fighting off guards. He stares over his shoulder as he grips an iron truncheon thrust at him by one of his attackers. A large bloody hand print marks his face, and his chest and hands are covered with blood. He wears a checked kimono that hangs open at the chest, his long hair fluttering around his face. Another assailant can be seen crouching behind him. An intriguing subject with very fine line work in the hair and soft shading in the dark night sky, with a dusting of mica across the top. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small hole, repaired. Slight toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
