Firemen's Procession and Acrobatics Display

Comments - Terrific depiction of the annual firemen's procession or parade, which featured athletic displays of acrobatics atop tall bamboo ladders. The men perform in the center of a square, with three different brigades holding up ladders as men balance precariously atop them. A group of dignitaries in purple uniforms sits in the center, with firemen ringing the square, each holding his company's matoi or standard. Tightly packed crowds extend across the street on either side. A terrific image of this demonstration of skill.

Artist - Kunitoshi (1847 - 1899)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 5/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A couple small losses at edges and holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
