Hokusai (1760 - 1849) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
47 Ronin, Act 5: The Yamazaki Highway

Meiji Era Reprints of Hokusai's Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Around 1806, Hokusai designed a beautifully detailed series of woodblocks illustrating the acts of the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura." This beloved drama is based on the true story of the 47 ronin, who avenged the death of their master, Lord Hangan. Published in 1890, these Meiji era reprints feature the same attention to detail as the originals, with wonderful landscape and interior settings. Exquisitely printed, these wonderful reprints are rarely seen in the market and are a great choice for a collector interested in this famous tale of honor and revenge. Some feature deluxe techniques such as embossing or mica.
