Fujibakama, Purple Trousers, Chapter 30 - Fantastic scene of the actor Sawamura Sojuro V in the role of Lady Iwafuji from the classic kabuki play "Onoe Iwafuji." The malevolent woman plots the downfall of her junior lady-in-waiting, Onoe, by stealing a valuable stature in Onoe's care and replacing it with a zori sandal. She stands in a garden, scowling as she looks back over her shoulder, an umbrella in hand. A servant crouches behind her with a box tucked under his arm. Yellow yamabuki flowers spread along the ground next to a garden fence, with white plum blossoms against the darkening sky at upper right. Wonderfully expressive figures in this handsome design.
