Kagarabi (Flares), Chapter 27 - Terrific kabuki portrait of the actor Bando Shuka as the nun Seigen in a scene from the kabuki play "Onoe Iwafuji." She rides in a ferry, resting one elbow against a wooden crate, lifting her hat above her head as raindrops slant across the gray evening sky. She wears a black robe over a pale blue kimono, a cloth bundle tied across her shoulders, smiling happily with loose wisps of hair framing her face. The water reflects an orange glow from a fire basket hanging from a nearby fisherman's boat. A lovely design, beautifully drawn with soft shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 9 1/4" x 13 7/8" + margins as shown
